«Foods and natural products» Award

We are glad to communicate that our colleage Nikos Katsinas has been awarded with the “Best oral presentation – Foods and Natural Products award” by the journal Foods MDPI during the 18th European Meeting on Supercritical Fluids (#EMSF2021) congress. This award recognizes the value of a study that illustrates how a selectivity of sustainable and intensified extraction techniques can push the technology towards high value bio-markers, becoming competitive compared to conventional ones. 

Further it highlights the important of collaborative and multidisciplinary research for the valorisation agro-industrial by-products into high value applications to boost the bioeconomy development. In this case, olive pomace extracts have been shown as a potential theraphy for dry eye disease.

This work was developed in collaboration between High Pressure Processes Group – UVa and IOBA UVa in the frame of the European Project «ITDED-3: Integrated Training in Dry Eye Disease Drug Development» and guided by Dr. Soraya Rodríguez Rojo and Dr. Amalia Enríquez-de-Salamanca Aladro.
